Tail of the Dragon Cabins

Don't let the name fool you!  Honoring one of the tallest peaks in the Smoky Mountains, Thunderhead is anything but a day in the storm clouds.  Featuring 2 bedrooms and 2 baths, Thunderhead offers modern cabin comforts in a secluded mountain setting.   Step through the front door and Thunderhead immediately frames a 17 mile long-range view of the Great Smoky Mountain National Park!   Whether it's sitting under the covered porch, soaking in the hot tub or warming up around the rustic stone fire pit, be amazed as you watch the clouds dance over Clingmans Dome and its neighboring peaks.  But if it's the indoors you prefer, Thunderhead's eclectic lake and lodge-style themes will be sure to spark conversation.

Minutes from the Tail of the Dragon (Deals Gap), Thunderhead is a great way to start and end any mountain road adventure.  Located off the famed "Moonshiner 28" (HWY 28), you are minutes away from Fontana Dam, Fontana Village, Tsali Mountain Biking Trails, and the Joyce Kilmer Memorial Forest.  If whitewater rafting and zip lining is more your flavor, check out the Nantahala Outdoor Center (NOC).  Boating, fishing, kayaking, paddle boarding and many other water activities are minutes away in Fontana Lake.  Bryson City and all its shops, restaurants and the Great Smoky Mountain Railroad are a short drive away as well.

Thunderhead is easily accessible with combination gravel and paved access all the way to the cabin.  Experienced riders should have no issue but the community does have a small parking area at the entrance where guests can park their travel trailers and motorcycles if they choose to not drive up the hill.  Thunderhead is a short walk/drive up the hill. 

Main Floor

Thunderhead embraces its chalet-style roots with a great room featuring large sliders that open to the tiered deck where you will find a 4 person hot tub and a Weber gas grill.  In the great room, you can kick back and enjoy the view while sitting in front of the gas log fireplace or watch your favorite show or Blu-ray on the 50" flat screen TV equipped with Dish Network premium programming.  Listen to music channels through the Sony Soundbar system.  Installed is an Amazon Fire TV Stick that guests that can also use to stream Netflix, Amazon, etc. (membership required).   DSL Internet and Wi-Fi is included!

Test your skills at the electronic dartboard or lay out the included card table insert in the dining room and play a game of poker or blackjack with your guests while dinner cooks in the very well equipped kitchen.  Clean ups will be easy with the many small appliances including a large crock pot and an electric skillet for those quick meals!

Sleeping Accommodations

The main floor features a comfortable queen bedroom with a Smart TV for streaming your favorite programming.  The large loft features a king-sized bed, a smart TV for streaming your favorite programming, and a full shower bath.  The bed is perfectly positioned to enjoy the view through the large windows at all hours of the day!
